You've apparently not encountered the infamous Banana Slug. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_slug for more.These things get up to 10" long. Takes a lot of salt to really do one of them in properly.
Gee! I must have met up with a SMALLER cousin of those other slugs. Glad they are not in my garden, I would have to be buying salt by the ton.
Ick, 3-4 inchers are found around my house quite often. *gack*Glad you didn't mess your shoes up stepping on it.
I am sure glad I looked down as I left work this evening, as this big three inch long guy, was right where my next step would have been.
